Milton Keynes put pressure on Newbury from early on and within 5 minutes the visitors had a lineout near the Stags try line. The ball was collected and Steve Christie forced his was over for the first try of the game. This was converted by Phil Powell who had an excellent game.
From the restart Milton Keynes collected the ball and Andy Champs burst through the Newbury defence passing the ball to scrum half Dan Pearson who scored under the posts. The try was converted by Phil Powell and the score was 14 – 0 in 10 minutes. Newbury Stags came back into the match. Despite great defence by Milton Keynes Newbury eventually broke through and scored a try although it wasn’t converted.
Milton Keynes returned to dominating the game and within 10 minutes Keiran McConnell made a great break through the middle of the Stags defence breaking 4 tackles before scoring under the posts. By half time Milton Keynes were 21 – 5 up with the first of two tries by man of the match Phil Powell.
With the wind behind them City dominated the second half. There were further tries by Dan Pearson, Neil Haynes, Iain Talbot and Robert Matthews almost completed the game. Fittingly Richard Hill, the Milton Keynes Captain finished with a try in the last play of the game. Milton Keynes are now 3rd in the league and back on track to compete for promotion.
