PJ Care, 12 Training, Line-one Sales, Bluefin Insurance, and many other sponsors that have helped in the completion of the new clubhouse interior and also through sponsorship of players enjoyed hospitality in the new club house.
Milton Keynes where also honoured with the presence of the President and Chairman of Buckinghamshire Rugby along with the dignitaries of the visiting club Beaconsfield.
The kick off at 3pm arrived and a crowd of approximately 150 supporters wondered off to the touchline. Milton Keynes started the first half playing up the slope of the new pitch, the home side were soon awarded a penalty early on and took a 3 point lead, thanks to Dave Matthews, the lead short lived as Beaconsfield came back with converted try, due to the lack of tackling by Milton Keynes.
Dave Mathews answered with a penalty kick and the score remained at 6—7. The encounter was very even as expected and on the half hour the visitors went further ahead with a penalty. Beaconsfield where unlucky when a certain try was knocked on at the last pass. The half time whistle arrived and Milton Keynes, although 4 points adrift had the second half to look forward to playing down the slope.
11 minutes in and from the forwards feeding the three quarters, the ball spun out to Scott Aspinall to score a great try, Dave Matthews conversion narrowly missed the far post but Milton Keynes took a brief lead for the first time in the game. This was short lived as Beaconsfield answered with their own try, converted, and took over points advantage again to lead by 6 points.
Next it was the turn of Dan Rolfe to score, normally on the flank but switched to the wing for this match, Rofly used his pace to outsprint the Beaconsfield no 8 to score under the posts, but the missed conversion, brought the score to Milton Keynes 16 , Beaconsfield 17. Finally the last score of the game, Scott Aspinall gave the last pass to Dave Matthews as he scored in the corner and converted his own try from the touchline.
With just 5 minutes to go, and all the Valley team had to do was grind out the game, although they pushed hard for a 4 try win to add the bonus point. With Beaconsfield giving away penalty after penalty on their try line, City were expecting a penalty try, but it was not to be and the MK 1st XV took a well earned win, 23 to 17 with a far more satisfying 2nd half.
Next week Milton Keynes play their last league game away to Oxford, and at Emerson Valley the Vet`s play Olney Vet`s in the Dave Eales memorial game, kicking off at 4.30pm, it is expected that John Bentley will turn out for Milton Keynes and Olney regular Will Greenwood will try to make the match for the opposition.
