MILTON KEYNES RUGBY HOME MATCH MILTON KEYNES V WALLINGFORD
RESULT :- Milton Keynes 36 Wallingford 15
Wallingford playing down the Valley slope exerted the early pressure and came out with all guns blazing, a try within 12 minutes and Milton Keynes were having an early wobble, but this acted as a wakeup call as the hosts reacted by playing back into the Wallingford 22 and hassled them into giving away 2 penalties, both well converted by Phil Powell and Milton Keynes took a slender lead by 1 point.
The home team were now well in command of the game when Wallingford had a rear visit into Milton Keynes territory, a penalty awarded to the defending side was reversed when somebody spoke to the ref` and Wallingford took the opportunity to retake the lead with the successful penalty.
From the kick off skipper Richard Hill marched his pack back up field and his forwards took charge, a Wallingford player shoulder barged a Milton Keynes forward and was duly yellow carded, from a tap penalty and following scrum close to the Wallingford line Milton Keynes scored a great try as Stuart Tomkinson charged over the line, Phil Powell added the conversion and the half ended with the home side firmly in control and a lead score of 11---8.
From the kick off Wallingford went off side Phil Powell just failed to add points, but just 9 minutes in the hosts three quarters were putting some slick passing together and it was obvious that would take a further lead, this they did with style the three`s switching the ball back to the forwards and Richard Hill made good metres towards the line giving the final pass to Kieran McConnell with a bit of ball juggling dived to touch down, Phil Powell having a good day with the boot added 2 points.
Wallingford were at sixed and sevens, not able to handle the wave of attacks, and gave away 2 penalties one under the posts and the other 35 metres out Phil Powell still on song added 6 more points the score now moving to a comfortable 24----8 lead.
Yet another try followed with fallback Neil Haynes finishing of the move diving under the posts, easy conversion for Powell. The game now went on into extra time when Wallingford had one more effort in them and from a long kick up field and a resulting scrum, their outside half nipped around the blind side to score, the conversation good and time now at 44 minutes there was just one more play of the day Wallingford kicked off Milton Keynes gathered the ball and using a classic training ground move the ball, feed to the wing and then back inside to Phil Powell to give Milton Keynes a bonus point with their 4 th try, Powell hit the posts with the last kick of the game. A great performance from the whole team and Milton Keynes move into second place in the league.
