Milton Keynes 1st XV smashed Wootton Bassett in a much needed win on Saturday, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Milton Keynes hit the visitors Wootton Bassett head on from the start of this vital must win game, by totally out playing them from the whistle. The City players were immediately into action playing down the Valley slope and in the first half gave the large home crowd a scintillating none stop action half scoring 6 tries.

The first try being scored even before the match reporter could settle in his chair, with clip board in hand, the ball secured following the kick off a good tackle on the Wootton Bassett player and the rucked over by the City scrum and the ball whipped out to Winger Daniel Rolfe, and he powered over into the corner to score, with Phil Powell stepping up to secure his first points of the game, try and conversion secured with only one minute on the clock, what a start.

Just 7 minutes in and the Milton Keynes pack were on the rampage, with a final pass to Skipper Richard Hill (c) completely unstoppable from 10 metres crashes across the try line for the first of his 2 tries in this half, conversion missed, and Wootton Bassett still reeling from Cities dominance, have to kick off again.

The Milton Keynes supporters had only just settled from the last try and watching some fine running rugby were treated to a try from centre Scott Aspinall, with Phil Powell cleverly kicking the ball between the defence and Scott Aspinall picking it up neatly as it bounced of the post protector to score, an easy conversion for Phil Powell to take the score to 19 – 0 with just 15 minutes of the game played.

Wootton Bassett In desperation to get out of their 25 kicked a long ball up field, this secured by the Milton Keynes forwards that ran the ball back into the visitors territory and slipped the ball blind side to Daniel Rolfe to run in 35 metres to score his second try under the posts, another easy 2 from Phil Powell, this the first objective of the day to gain the 4 try bonus point.

With 15 minutes of the half remaining there was more bad news for the visitors with their Skipper being sent for a 10 minute rest in the sin bin for coming over the top in a ruck, the home side took a tap penalty with the forwards setting up a rolling maul and Prop Ashley Hill scoring, as the maul crossed the line, conversion failed, the score moving to 31 – 0.

Now close to half time Phil Powell kicked the ball into the corner Steven Christie stole the ball in the line out, the pack moved it forward Richard Hill (c) broke away and scored his second try of the day , a difficult conversion from the touch line was good for Phil Powell and the half finished 38 – 0 to Milton Keynes.

After the break and to their credit from the first half mauling Wootton Bassett came out with a positive attitude, the first incident after 10 minutes was a yellow card to Milton Keynes full back Daniel Walker, for entering the maul from the side, Wootton Bassett took advantage of the situation and scored a run away try before Daniel Walker was invited back into the game.

Milton Keynes score rate understandably slowed down and it took 20 minutes before Phil Powell crossed the line, converting his own try.
Milton Keynes still dominate to the end finished a fine display with Scott Aspinall and Phil Powell both securing a second try each, in the last 5 minutes, Powell missed both of the 2 conversions but took his tally for the day to 20.
Final score 55—7.

The excitement now moves on the last league game at home to Alchester on 14th April.

Windsor also managed their 5 points and will play their catch up game on Easter Saturday, and finish on the 14th at home to league leaders Beaconsfield.
