The 2nds winning streak came to an end this weekend against a well drilled Ampthill side ending up losing 5-10.
The Milton Keynes pack yet again carried on their great work this season, working well at set pieces and strong running from Pickles and Matt kept the ball going forward, all 8 worked tirelessly around putting in the big tackles and dirty work in. When the ball did come out the likes of Tom,Joe and Dan all made good yards against a well drilled Ampthill defence whilst Keio and Tom are like two rocks in defence.
Milton Keynes spent much of the 1st half in the oppositions 20 metres but without the little general we struggled to unlock their defence. As in all sports if you don’t take your chances you will get punished and with Ampthill only chance of the 1st half they scored.
Second half we swapped the whole front row along with a couple of other switches the new front row took to the challenge straight away with Dan,Eric and Ben all knocking guys over and getting around the park. Yet again Milton Keynes where pushing hard for a try when a lack of judgement from Barney gifted an interception to the opposing 10.The lads were massively disappointed but as like all season just rolled up their sleeves and carried on. The rest of the game Milton Keynes where camped in the Amptill half and scored off a quick tap penalty from the old master Lewis Barnett.
With only one score in it Milton Keynes threw everything at them Ampthill but were frustrated by a gritty defence from Amptill assisted by a referee that did not punishes penalty after penalty on the line. Even when a blatant trip was seen by the ref nothing more than a penalty was giving!
This was a truly frustrating performance especially for the forwards that did not put a foot wrong and the young guns in the backs that hit all their tackles but did not get the service their talent deserved.
